And............They're Back!

clock October 28, 2008 15:05 by author jaret

The first ever Talk English International trip!  Yes, it happened with the hard work of staff and Crew and the eager Talk English members.  Congrats to all for hard work that paid off.  Of course, most of us can sit back and imagine the sand in our feet and the feeling of an island breeze.  I can only imagine the fun they had. Ok, I am jealous, but also very excited that everyone had a GREAT time and made it back safely.

The pictures look absolutely beautiful and the fun in the sun and sand looks like a time and place to stay...maybe forever!  More pictures to come...Congratulations:  Shimmer, Kenny, Season, Brian...

Creator of TMM, powering Talk iTutor, visits Talk HQ!

clock October 22, 2008 09:59 by author yee

Great news! As you may know, Talk iTutor, the sensational new online learning solution, powered by TMM (Tell Me More), has become a central and important part of Talk English. Today, Patricia Duret, co-founder and Global Service Director of the company Auralog, which created TMM (Tell Me More), came all the way over from France HQ and visited our company HQ, to take a first-hand look at how Talk English is using their product in the Shanghai/mainland China market. She was very impressed with what Jim and we have done with their product, and how we've integrated it into Talk English as a whole. Talk iTutor offers over 2000+hours of blended e-learning, aimed at improving your speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities in English anytime, anywhere online..... and it is indeed a great honor to have the co-founder and creator of TMM visit us! Here is a picture of Ms. Duret (she's the one next to Jim), and the rest of the Academic Team at Talk HQ.

As the one responsible for Talk iTutor and the online operations, I'd like to say to all the EC's that are selling this, that you are doing a great job so far (over 200 users and counting), so continue to get lots more people to sign up and use iTutor. Soon there will be a new product on market, Talk Online, that will be even better...

For the SC's and CRM, keep offering excellent customer service for the product to our members. And for all the members, keep logging on to iTutor, practice on it, and keep going to the related classes every day... like the good English learners you all are!

Please Welcome JC - Our New Full-Time Crew

clock October 20, 2008 09:02 by author jc

Education:

University of Richmond
BA International Studies: International Economics, Chinese

What brings you to Shanghai?
I've been studying Chinese for more than 10 years now, and have been lucky enough to travel around China several times.
After studying here in Shanghai last year, I decided I really loved the city and wanted to come back.  It reminds me in many ways of home, since I'm from New York: I love how there is always something happening here.  I love how busy the city is.

What did you think it was going to be like in Shanghai?
I wasn't sure, really.  Everytime I've come to China, so much has changed.  When I left last year, I knew that there was
already so much in development: new subways, new skyscrapers, and more.  So coming back, I didn't really know what to expect.  Despite that, everything here has met my expectations.

What impresses you most about Shanghai?
The speed of the city.  Everything here moves so quickly, whether it's buildings going up, neighborhoods developing, or the
taxis driving down the road.  Then again, I'm from New York and I tend to walk quickly, and that's something people here definitely don't do.

What do you enjoy about working for Talk English?
I really love where I come from and I'm proud of so much of my culture, whether it's music, sports, or food.  I like that
working for Talk English gives me the opportunity to share that culture with others, while at the same time being able to learn more about their culture.

What advice would you give our members?  Or what encouragement can you offer those who might find themselves in an English cquisition rut?
You've got to take risks!  As someone who has studied Chinese for so long, I know what it's like to reach a point where
you're not making any progess.  The best way to fix that is to mix it up and try something different.  If you are really comfortable talking about certain subjects, put yourself into a situation where you have to talk about something else, even if you might screw up.  If you make mistakes, then you can learn from them.

[My Weekender] with Def-Jon Peng

Straight-up good times with Def-Jon - Oct 10, 08

Def-Jon Peng is a former internet forum staple, a current bar tender of I Love Shanghai, and a future captain of international marketing and commerce. Perhaps famous novelist too it seems.

I know what you're thinking... 21... American-born Chinese... and in college. This dude's weekender is going to be all about the Fuxing Park circuit. In actuality I've never been to any of those places...
